INTRODUCTION“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.” - Helen Keller Optimistic October has been a month of hope and new achievements. With the arrival of this month, we have been able to commence the classes on a hybrid model. The exciting stepping in of our zealous students on campus witnessed them beaming with excitement and happiness. The core value of the month ‘I Am Peace’ was discussed well during the QCT lessons in which students could understand the concept and its importance by watching videos on the theme. The students shared their views about peace within and everywhere. The festive season of Dussehra and Diwali was enjoyed in the special assemblies and several cultural performances were put up by our talented Suncitizens. The significance of the festivals was conveyed well. The students commenced their morning assemblies every day with beautiful thoughts and enriching words. They enjoyed reading the NIE and sharing numerous facts and regular updates about vaccination SPECIAL ASSEMBLY“Celebrate the victory of the forces of good over evil.” Dussehra, also called Vijayadashmi (or Bijoya in Bengal), is the culmination of the nine-day Navaratri celebrations. It is a festival that marks the killing of Raavan, his son Meghanath and brother Kumbhakarn, by Lord Ram. It is seen as the victory of good over evil. A special assembly was conducted by the students of Grade VI A on 6th October 2021. The assembly started with a Ram Stuti, beautifully sung by Vritika Sarkar. The students presented a short enactment of Ramayana in a beautiful drama form. They were dressed up as the characters of the great epic. This was followed by the ‘Devi Stuti’, a traditional Kathak dance presentation by Sunaina Yadav. The students also highlighted the importance of the festival in today’s world and reinforced the message of the triumph of good over evil. The school Principal, Ms Guneet Ohri appreciated the effort of the students and emphasized that this day is considered not only the victory of Ram but also the victory of mankind. Summing up, the event was a learning experience for all about our rich Indian culture and values. MATHEMATICSExponents and Powers:- “Prior knowledge has long been considered the most important factor influencing learning and student achievement. The amount and quality of prior knowledge positively influence both knowledge acquisition and the capacity to apply higher-order cognitive problem-solving skills.” To generate curiosity and check on prior knowledge of the concept, students solved some mixed type of problems based on exponents and powers and then they listed various laws of exponents and power. After learning these laws, students explored the use of these laws in real life by describing very large and very small numbers in standard notations for example:
In addition, students also practice mental math problems based on the related concept. Algebraic Expressions: - To start with, some algebraic expressions were displayed on the board to check their prior knowledge [remembering skills] about the concept and it was an “aha” moment to see that students knew the basics of expressions. They were able to list the components of expressions: “terms, coefficients and constants” and were able to differentiate between types of polynomials based on the number of terms and their degrees. In addition, students operated the algebraic expressions under addition, subtraction and multiplication under many different combinations like:
Using the concept of multiplication of polynomials, students derived below identities themselves and understood the application of identities. SCIENCEPhysics: LEARNING BY DOING & EXPERIMENTATION Natural Phenomenon: - Based on observations, students explained the charges and their properties using the following activities and also concluded that “Repulsion is the surest test of electrification”.

They were connected to real-life examples like a school bell, utensils, wires to recall the uses of metals and non-metals in our daily lives. They learnt the different physical properties of metals and non-metals through Hands-on Activity. They brought various materials like chalk, aluminum foil, iron nails, copper wire, lead pencil, hammer to observe different properties of metals like malleability, ductility, hardness, density, luster, sonority. They struck the hammer on the utensils, iron nails and chalk to understand the sonority property of metals. They recorded their observations in the observation table as: They also learnt the conductivity property of metals and non-metals by connecting the various materials like an iron nail, rubber, pencil lead aluminum foil with copper wires, bulb and battery. They all recorded their observations in the observation table. They researched the locations of the deposits of iron, aluminium and zinc in India and marked these locations in an outline map of India [integrated with Geography]. Online assessments were also conducted as a part of the learning process to enhance student motivation and to track the progress of the students. The assessments held helped to augment students’ engagement and ensured continuous improvement by providing relevant information about students’ comprehension throughout the learning process. A mid review assessment through MS form Quiz was also designed at the middle of the chapter to track their progress. They understood that how cells come together and form an individual. With the help of diagrams and videos, they were able to observe the different plant and animal cells. They learnt about the various cell organelles and their function and that the cells can be as small as the size of a micron to as big as an Ostrich’s egg. SOCIAL SCIENCEHistory: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a Virtual Tour of the Eternal Gandhi museum was conducted where children came to know about the various facets of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and his message of peace (Shanti), truth (Satya) and ahimsa (non-violence). With the help of a padlet link, children expressed Gandhi’s view on gender equality (SDG 5). Children shared their opinions on the conditions of women prevailing in the 18th century and compared their status with modern times. With the help of a PPT, children were explained about the efforts taken by some reformers and the British government to bring a change in their lives. Map reading activity was done in the class where children marked the places with which various reformers led their movement. A comparative table on the Class Notebook was shared to [WU1] explain the contribution of reformers of North India, South India, East India and West India. As a part of the CBSE Activity, children celebrated the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ by writing a paragraph on two places associated with the freedom struggle. Link: https://egmh.org/virtual-tour/ [WU1]Which topic was taken up – no mention Civics: Judiciary With the help of a PPT students discussed the functions of the Judiciary. They also gained knowledge about the structures of courts in India like the Supreme Court. Students asked and shared their views about the functioning of the High court and Subordinate courts as well and clarified their doubts. To get more clarity about how courts function: a case study was discussed with students. They described and gave examples for independent and impartial judiciary. Sharing views and gaining knowledge about the functioning of the Judiciary increased their confidence in our judicial system. Young people are the future of the world. Since the UN works to make the world a better place, students were given a chance to replicate the Model United Nations General Assembly. Each student was assigned a country and the topic was given to them. They researched about the progress towards SDG 16:- Peace Justice and Strong Institutions by the country, collected information about the challenges faced by the country or gathered information about governmental and nongovernmental organizations working towards achieving the goal. Students followed all the guidelines and procedures of the General assembly like showing the name card of the countries to ask a question, calling each other “Delegate of…….” .They thoroughly enjoyed the session and understood the importance of the United Nations. ICTPython is easy to learn. Python has a simple syntax that makes it suitable for learning programming as a first language. During the process of learning Python, the students learnt advanced coding in Python using Operators, Algorithm, Flowchart, and conditional statements in Python. During the process of learning Python, the students learnt about the installation process, features, working modes, and data types of the Python language. They realised that any task they perform in their daily routine consists of three steps – Input, Processing, and Output. This chapter is helping them to perform all these operations with the help of Python programs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_Eds34UVCs ENGLISH“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” - Brain Herbert The learners recapitulated the “Types of tenses” with the help of a ppt. Keeping in mind Bloom’s taxonomy, they were able to APPLY the use of tenses and IDENTIFY them in their day to day conversation. All the sub-topics like usage of perfect tenses, the correct form of verbs, use of for and since, sequence of tenses, tenses in conditionals, were discussed followed by the discussion of textbook exercises. They were given a quiz to attempt as a reflection activity on Quizziz.com which was thoroughly enjoyed with a healthy spirit of competition. A handout for the same was also provided to help them with notes making. The students were guided about the comparison of the three tenses with the help of a table of tenses. Textbook exercises were discussed with the active participation of the students. The students were given an enrichment exercise for extra practice. “Think twice before deciding because once opportunities are lost, they ‘re lost forever.” The students enjoyed the poem ‘The louse and the mosquito’ by learning that one should not trust anyone blindly and we should think before taking any decision. The students were able to attempt the exercises and write the answers and summary of the poem independently after a discussion in the class. “A book is a gift you can open again and again.” –Garrison Keillor The students were assigned a reading task from the supplementary reader –Malgudi Days. They were briefed about the chapter- ‘Leela’s Friend’ based on which they had to write a pen picture of the boy named Siddha. The students were able to analyse the character traits and emotions like love, care and action according to the need of the hour. They were able, to sum up, their views and comments about the character. The students analysed the important points of writing a letter to the editor and practiced the same. In sync with SDG 15- Climate in action, the students built on their knowledge of Letter Writing.
