INTRODUCTION“Start each day with a positive thought and a grateful heart.” Roy T. Benett Dynamic December has been a month of celebrations and happiness all around. It is the time when students are in the mood for celebrations of Christmas and the New Year. It has been another month of learning new concepts with the maximum participation in different activities like intra and inter-school competitions, which not only honed their skills but also gave them a platform to showcase their talents. The universal theme ‘ I am Wise ’ proved to be an opportunity for the young minds which enabled them to imbibe the value of being wise and acting wise. The students happily narrated their personal experiences during the discussion time in the morning assembly sessions promising to be wise and thoughtful always. They shared their happiness by contributing beautifully to the project ‘The Joy of Giving’ where they thought selflessly about everyone and tried to make an effort to add happiness to others’ lives too. The dynamic Suncitizens displayed their ardour and passion by celebrating Christmas on a virtual platform. The students commenced their morning assemblies every day with beautiful thoughts and enriching words. They enjoyed reading the NIE and sharing numerous facts and regular updates about various competitions. MATHEMATICSDIRECT AND INVERSE PROPORTIONS With the help of discussion and question-answer method on different situations, recapitulation of ratio and proportions was done. Further, with the help of several real-life situations, the concept of direct and inverse proportions was introduced. In addition, problem sums on below real-life applications were discussed and done by students:
COMPARING QUANTITIES Based on their prior knowledge, students practiced some problems on percentages to excel in the topic to apply the concept regarding the following sub-topics:
Students were given some real-life problems and some case studies to understand the concept of the percentage change. SCIENCEBiology: Reproduction in Animals: The month commenced with the learning about reproduction in animals and the revision of ‘Cell- Structure and Function’. With the help of diagrams, videos and pictures, the students acquired knowledge about the fertilization process and the various stages of the development of the embryo. They also learnt that in some animals the fertilization is external like frogs & fish. They studied the process of development in them. For the science unit test, the students solved and discussed the revision sheet and an online quiz. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH1SJpg0DU8 Physics:- LEARNING BY DOING & EXPERIMENTATION LIGHT: - The lesson began with checking the prior knowledge of students about the topic –‘ Sources and Propagation of Light’ followed by a round of some open-ended questions. Chemistry:- Learners were introduced to a new topic, ‘Combustion and Flame’ through a prior knowledge check via Venn Diagram on Combustion and Burning. They learnt about combustible and non-combustible substances through a hands-on activity. They tried to burn different materials like matchsticks, a small piece of cloth, an iron nail, glass, paper and a steel spoon to identify the combustible and non-combustible materials. They recorded their observations in the observation table as: Material Combustible /Non-combustible Matchsticks Cloth Iron nail Glass Paper Steel spoon To understand that oxygen is necessary for combustion, they all placed a burning candle on a steel plate and covered it with a transparent glass tumbler. They observed that the candle stopped burning as the supply of oxygen was cut off by the inverted glass tumbler. Further, to get an idea of the term ‘Ignition Temperature’, they placed an aluminum foil at the base of the candle flame and above the melted wax. They observed that the candle flame gets extinguished after some time because burning does not take place below its ignition temperature.
